| Details: | Art League of Hilton Head Announces Inaugural Hilton Head Island Plein Air Paint Out April 9–10, 2026 | Quick Draw Competition April 11
Art League of Hilton Head invites artists from across the region to capture the beauty of the Lowcountry during its inaugural Hilton Head Island Plein Air Paint Out, taking place April 9–10, 2026. This two-day outdoor painting event will feature artists working on location throughout Hilton Head Island, celebrating the area’s coastal light, maritime forests, beaches, and historic landmarks.
The Paint Out will be judged by nationally recognized plein air painter Catherine Hillis, with a $1,000 first-place prize awarded to the top entry. Registration is $75, or $50 for Art League of Hilton Head members.
“We envision the Plein Air Paint Out becoming a signature cultural event for Hilton Head Island,” said Kristen McIntosh, Executive Director of Art League of Hilton Head. “Artists will not only compete for awards but will have the opportunity to exhibit and sell work created during the event, allowing collectors and visitors to take home a piece of the island painted in real time.”
Artists may submit up to two completed works to the Wet Paint Gallery at Art League Gallery, where they will have the opportunity to publicly display and sell their freshly created paintings. The public is invited to view and purchase the artwork on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 from 10am to 4pm. An Awards Reception will be held Friday, April 10 from 5 to 7pm, where winners will be announced. The reception is free and open to the public.
Artists may also participate in the Quick Draw Competition on Saturday, April 11 at Shelter Cove Marina. This fast-paced event, judged by respected artist Carol Iglesias, is available as a $25 add-on to Paint Out registration and will take place from 8am to 1pm. |
