"The Art of the Abstract: Your Exciting Path to Design" an online step-by-step demonstration with Alex Sharma (July 24, 2026)

THE ART OF THE ABSTRACT: YOUR EXCITING PATH TO DESIGN
A Step-by-Step Online Demonstration with instructor Alex Sharma

WHEN:
90-MINUTES
Friday, July 24, 2026

(10 to 11:30am EST)
Your ticket includes access to the LIVE demo via ZOOM plus a copy of the recording, good to re-watch as many times as you'd like for 30 days!

If you sometimes find it difficult to get a satisfying interpretation of a scene and wish you could just let loose with color and shapes, this Zoom is for you!

In art, an abstract drawing or painting may be based on an object, figure or landscape, but the forms have been simplified and sometimes distorted. Instead of attempting to represent real world objects, instead we will focus on shapes, colors and lines to convey emotions or concepts.

This Zoom demo will show how to take a scene to a delightful place where you will be letting your love of color, shapes, and your design sense--yes, we all have one!--create the scene.   Get yourself completely absorbed by the design you are creating without worrying about a realistic representation.  Your subject matter will still be evident, but it will be delightfully changed and completely, yours.

Come prepared to paint, draw, or just watch as Alex takes you step by step applying some methods of abstraction.  She will simplify and change the reality of a scene to create a symbolic representation shaped by the balance of colors, shapes and lines.

Materials to draw or paint along on paper or canvas can be any medium--from colored pencils, markers, watercolor paint or acrylics or oils.  A Sharpie ink pen will be an asset.

Appropriate for participants at all levels from beginner to advanced

NOTE:
Please be sure to Download & Sign-Up for Zoom ahead of time, it's free! We will send you the Link to the session the day before the session. Late registrations will receive the link the morning of the session. You will be able to join the waiting room at 9:30am to ensure you are set up and ready to go. Attendees will receive a copy of the video on Monday afternoon following the demonstration, which will be good to re-watch as many times as you want for up to 30 days.

While this is a demonstration, and not a class, we do encourage you to ask questions throughout the demonstration because odds are if you're thinking it, someone else is too. We ask all participants to stay muted unless asking a question so that we don't pick up any background noise and ensure participants can hear and that our recording is clear as well.
