Dive into the world of sea turtles and discover the joy of drawing these magnificent ocean wanderers! Join longtime favorite instructor Joyce Nagel for a half-day workshop where you'll learn to capture the graceful curves, intricate shell patterns, and serene presence of sea turtles using charcoal and graphite techniques.
Whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or you're a seasoned sketcher, Joyce will guide you through every step—from understanding basic forms and proportions to adding depth, texture, and movement that brings your drawings to life. You'll explore shading techniques that create dimension, learn how to render the distinctive patterns of turtle shells, and discover tricks for capturing that sense of weightless gliding through water.
Joyce's warm, encouraging teaching style makes this workshop perfect for all skill levels. She'll work with you individually to help you build confidence and develop your own artistic voice while celebrating what makes sea turtles so captivating. By the end of the session, you'll leave with finished artwork you're proud of and new skills you can apply to any subject.
A Percentage of the proceeds from this workshop will be donated to Sea Turtle Patrol in conjunction with our special Sea Turtle collaborative art exhibit at Art League Academy from July 21 through July 31, 2026.SKILL LEVEL:
This course is designed for all levels of students, even beginners.

Ticket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. Credits or Refunds will not be given for missed or classes/workshops.
If a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head a full refund will be given.

| Instructor Bio: | JOYCE NAGEL was born in Buffalo, NY. She received a BS in advertising design from Rochester Institute of Technology and an MA in printmaking from Wayne State University. She is a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society and a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America. She has received many awards from regional and national pastel societies. Most recently Joyce won Best of Show for her oil at Art League of Hilton Head?s 2015 Biennale Exhibition. Currently, Joyce and her husband Don, teach weekly classes at the Art League Academy in drawing, design and landscape in the medium of your choice. They have teamed up to do pastel workshops in France, Italy, Africa and throughout the US. She is a partner of the Maye River Gallery in Bluffton, SC, exhibiting her work in pastel, oil and acrylic. |
