Instructor Nancy Mitchell will help students loosen up, paint larger, and achieve amazing texture using a wide range of techniques in “Paint Fast: Texture.” This lively half-day workshop for oil and acrylic painters of all levels encourages artists to simplify shapes, work boldly, and build richly tactile surfaces with confident, expressive strokes.
Through demonstrations and guided practice, participants will explore multiple approaches to creating depth, contrast, and visual interest through texture—learning how to layer, scrape, scumble, dry brush, and manipulate paint to suggest everything from subtle surface variation to dramatic, dimensional effects. Nancy will share her approach to painting quickly and intuitively, helping artists balance control with spontaneity to keep their work fresh and energized.
Whether you’re new to textured painting or looking to expand your current techniques, this workshop offers an inspiring opportunity to strengthen observation, experiment with tools and mediums, and discover how texture can elevate composition and impact.

In situations where a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head, a full refund will be given.

| Requirements: | PLEASE BRING: Download a printable supply list 2 x Canvases (24" x 30" or larger) Palette Container for mixing underpainting Linseed Oil Rags Large Flat brush for underpainting Palette knife (choice) ASSORTED BRUSHES: #8 round #2 round #10 flat #12 flat (Your choice of Brand) OIL PAINTS: Windsor Newton brand or comparable Titanium White Cadmium Yellow Pale Cadmium Red Medium Yellow Ochre Cerulean Blue Cobalt Blue Ultramarine Blue Sap Green Alizarin Crimson At least 2 Photographs to work from that you love!! If you aren't excited by what you're painting, no one else will be! (These should be Photographs you took yourself if possible) NOTE: For those of you who choose to work in acrylics, please get some Liquitex slow dry that when added to your water, will keep your paint workable, for longer. | Instructor Bio: |  NANCY MITCHELL has enjoyed a career as an independent working artist in the Lowcountry for the last forty years. Diversity has always been the key, as Nancy paints murals and faux finishes in private homes and businesses, as well as landscapes in oils. Montage limited editions of Hilton Head Island and Savannah, as well as marsh scenes, seascapes, and additional subjects, are available in print. Although Nancy has a traditional degree in Fine Art, she credits private study with Charleston artist Martin Ahrens as having the most impact on her painting style.
