Unleash your creativity in this dynamic, hands-on workshop with acclaimed artist and educator Debi West! Collage to Canvas is a fast-paced, inspiring day of artistic exploration designed for students of all experience levels.
Participants will dive into the expressive world of collage, learning how to layer textures, colors, and imagery to create visually compelling compositions. Once their collages are complete, they’ll use a viewfinder to discover hidden gems within their work—unique shapes, patterns, and compositions waiting to be transformed.
From there, students will sketch and reinterpret these newfound designs, bringing them to life as vibrant acrylic paintings on canvas boards. This process encourages a fresh way of seeing and thinking about art—transforming spontaneous collage work into refined, painterly creations.
By the end of the day, participants will have explored techniques in collage, composition, sketching, and acrylic painting, while gaining confidence in their creative decision-making and artistic voice. This workshop is perfect for anyone eager to experiment, loosen up, and discover the exciting connection between mixed media and painting!
SKILL LEVEL:
This course is appropriate for all levels of students from true beginners to experienced artists.
NOTE:
Because of the numerous types of supplies students will be encouraged to use during this workshop, we will provide all the supplies you need. Just bring $10 cash to pay your instructor at the beginning of class.
REFUND POLICY:
Ticket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. Credits or Refunds will not be given for missed or classes/workshops.
If a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head a full refund will be given.

| Instructor Bio: |  I'm DEBI WEST and I have been teaching children through the Visual Arts for 25 years. I'm now taking my experience to School Districts and Teachers everywhere because I know, firsthand, how STUDENTS Learn! Hands-On Projects = Authentic Learning! Teachers need to know that our kids learn visually and through hands-on experimentation and manipulation so the ARTS matter now more than ever! I am Nationally Board Certified with 25 years of teaching experience in K-12 art education, arts integration, curriculum writing and project-based learning. I am beyond excited to share my knowledge because when we work together, the ultimate winners are our children our most priceless asset! I want to bring my innovative teaching and leadership styles and experiences to teachers, students, districts, art education associations and universities across the nation because I know first hand that: Hands-on Learning = Authentic Retention! |
