Capture the movement, light, and energy of the ocean in “Paint Fast: Seascapes,” a lively half-day workshop with Instructor Nancy Mitchell designed for oil and acrylic painters of all levels. This dynamic session encourages artists to loosen up, simplify shapes, and paint with bold, confident strokes to express the ever-changing beauty of the sea.
Through demonstrations and guided practice, participants will explore techniques to create compositions with depth and atmosphere, while learning how to depict realistic, well-defined waves, reflections, and shoreline details. Nancy will share her approach to painting quickly and expressively, helping artists balance accuracy with spontaneity to achieve fresh, vibrant results.
Whether new to seascape painting or looking to refine existing skills, this workshop offers an inspiring opportunity to strengthen observation, experiment with color mixing, and capture the luminous qualities of water and sky.

| Instructor Bio: |  NANCY MITCHELL has enjoyed a career as an independent working artist in the Lowcountry for the last forty years. Diversity has always been the key, as Nancy paints murals and faux finishes in private homes and businesses, as well as landscapes in oils. Montage limited editions of Hilton Head Island and Savannah, as well as marsh scenes, seascapes, and additional subjects, are available in print. Although Nancy has a traditional degree in Fine Art, she credits private study with Charleston artist Martin Ahrens as having the most impact on her painting style. Nancy is now passing these techniques on to her own students in her studio, as well as at Art League Academy. Mitchell taught the class Paint Fast in Oils for three years at Art League Academy and plans to teach again starting in 2025. Commissioned paintings are one of Nancy’s specialties; she prides herself on really listening to her clients so she can achieve a perfect balance between their desires and her own creativity.
