Experience the joy of painting outdoors in this inspiring two-day Plein Air workshop with artist and instructor Carol Iglesias! Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature as you learn to capture the ever-changing light, color, and atmosphere of the landscape using oils or pastels.
Each morning begins with an engaging demonstration and expert insights from Carol, who will share her techniques for quickly and confidently capturing a scene in Plein Air. Throughout the workshop, you’ll discover how to compose a strong painting, define values, identify light sources, establish focal points, and use color to bring your work to life.
With personalized instruction and one-on-one feedback, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to paint directly from nature—and fall in love with the magic of Plein Air painting.

This class is designed for beginner students, intermediate students and advanced students. This all-levels class focuses a lot on individual assistance from the instructor, who can adjust accordingly to each student.

| Requirements: | PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING: OIL PAINTERS SUPPLY LIST Download a Printable Supply List. The following is a list of items that I like to use. These are suggestions. You may use whatever materials that you have or prefer. The items in bold are the most important supplies needed. OILS (I primarily use Rembrandt Oils with a limited palette of Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Sap Green, Cadmium Green Light, Veridian and Transparent Oxide Red). Depending on the location, I will add Cadmium Orange, Manganese Blue Hue, Cobalt Blue, Cobalt Teal, Chromatic Black, or Rembrandt Prussian Blue. Also a Permalba White and Transparent Brown Oxide Small Sketchbook (I use 3.5" x 5" Strathmore Sketch.) (x2) Oil Painting Panels or Canvas 11x14 or 12x16 are good sizes. (I use Centurion OP DLX Linen Panels for plein air and stretched canvas for studio. Please tone your panels or canvas ahead of class with Transparent Red Oxide. Many options available thru Amazon, Dick Blick or Jerry's Art-a-Rama.) BRUSHES: Long Handle (I use only Rosemary & Co. Evergreen or Ivory Filbert Brushes, numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and Evergreen Long Flats in the same numbers and one old #2 bristle for drawing). Gloves in a Bottle/Barrier Cream and/or Gloves (I use VIPER x-small gloves.) Baby Wipes and/or Paper Towels (Viva or Shop Towels are best!) Black Ultra Fine Tip Pen (For Sketching. I like uni ball gel pens) 3 Values of Gray Markers (I like the No. 1, 3 and 5 Cool Gray) Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel Thinner (Odorless, Please. I use The Art Treehouse Biobased ARtist Thinner, in a small container)/span> Easel For Plein Air, a Portable Easel or Tripod with Box (I use a Sienna Tripod and Oil Pochade Box with a plexiglass Mixing Surface.) NOTE: Art League Academy has plenty of standing aluminum easels and some table top easels students are welcome to use during class. PASTEL PAINTERS SUPPLY LIST The following is a list of items that I like to use. These are suggestions. You may use whatever materials that you have or prefer with the exception of a toned sanded paper (any color) which works best with my teaching techniques. Download a Printable Supply List. The items in bold are the most important supplies needed. Soft Pastels (I primarily use Sennelier Half Sticks, Jack Richeson, Blue Earth or Great American) Hard Pastels (I occasionally use a few Jack Richeson or Nupastel) Vine Charcoal or graphite stick Small Sketchbook (I use 3.5" x 5" Strathmore Sketch) Pastel Premier Two 12" x 16" size sheets, toned Pastel Premier sanded paper. It can be mounted or an individual sheet from an assorted colors pack. | Instructor Bio: |  CAROL IGLESIAS was born in Montreal, Canada. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and currently lives on Hilton Head Island, SC. She is an award-winning artist, instructor, and juror who has exhibited her paintings extensively at galleries, museums, and shows. She works with oils and the brilliant color and texture of soft pastels. Her background in traveling has a strong influence on her subject matter. Carol employs a contemporary impressionistic style and has painted plein air for more than 20 years. In 2012, she was awarded a prestigious Artist Residency for one month at "Les Amis de la Grande Vigne" in Dinan, France, the former home and studio of the famous French artist Yvonne Jean-Haffen. One of Carol's paintings was selected for the Museum's permanent collection and was on exhibition in France during 2013 and again in 2019. She is an award winning signature member of The Maryland Pastel Society, as well as current member of The American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, The Pastel Society of America, and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. Her painting was selected as a semi-finalist for The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, LPAPA'S 17th Annual Best of Plein Air Show. Some of her paintings are in public and private collections throughout the U.S. as well as in five international countries. Her work has been published in many newspapers, magazines and books including "The Freelance Star", "Le Petit Bleu des Cotes d' Amour", "Quest France", "Elan Magazine", "American Art Collector Magazine", "The Piedmont Virginian Magazine", "The Best of America Pastel Artists, Volume II", "The Best Medical Advertising and Graphics" and the "2017 American Art Collector Book".
