In this exciting workshop, Carol Iglesias will guide you step-by-step through the impressionist approach—helping you loosen up, see color in new ways, and bring your paintings to life.
Each morning begins with a dynamic demonstration as Carol reveals her process for blocking in bold, simple shapes and layering vibrant hues to create depth and light. You’ll explore how to capture reflections that shimmer, build strong compositions, define values, and use expressive mark making to convey emotion and movement.
Learn how to interpret your own reference photos with confidence, mastering the relationships between value, color temperature, and intensity. Afternoons are devoted to your own painting time, where you’ll receive personalized, one-on-one feedback from Carol to help you grow your skills and refine your unique style.

SKILL LEVEL:
This class is designed for beginner students, intermediate students and advanced students. This all-levels class focuses a lot on individual assistance from the instructor, who can adjust accordingly to each student.

Ticket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. Credits or Refunds will not be given for missed or classes/workshops.
If a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head a full refund will be given.

| Requirements: | PASTELS MATERIALS LIST: Download a Printable Supply List. The following is a list of items that I like to use. These are suggestions. You may use whatever materials that you have or prefer with the exception of a toned sanded paper (any color) which works best with my teaching techniques. The items in bold are the most important supplies needed. Soft Pastels (I primarily use Sennelier Half Sticks, Terry Ludwig, Jack Richeson, Blue Earth or Great American) Hard Pastels (I occasionally use a few Jack Richeson or Nupastel) Vine Charcoal or graphite stick Small Sketchbook (I use 3.5" x 5" Strathmore Sketch) Two 12" x 16" size sheets sanded paper, toned. (I am okay with whatever brand of toned sanded paper you prefer. I use Pastel Premier sanded paper). It can be mounted or an individual sheet from an assorted colors pack. Many options available thru Amazon, DakotaPastels.com, Dick Blick or Jerry's Art-a-Rama.) 2" Painters tape for catching your pastel dust Gloves in a bottle/Barrier Cream and/or Gloves (I use VIPER x-small gloves) Baby Wipes and/or Paper Towels (Viva are best!) Black Ultra Fine Tip Pen (for sketching) 3 Values of Gray Markers (I like the No. 1, 3 and 5 Cool Gray) 1" White or Black Artists Tape ( or similar for mounting your paper) Mounting Board (I like lightweight black plastic corrugated board or foam core from Michaels) Photos (Your own to use as painting references) Small Container with Corn Meal (to hold your working colors and to clean your pastels) Glassine Sheets (wax paper can also work to temporarily protect your work) Visit Carol Iglesias' Website. | Instructor Bio: | ![]() CAROL IGLESIAS was born in Montreal, Canada. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and currently lives on Hilton Head Island, SC. She is an award-winning artist, instructor, and juror who has exhibited her paintings extensively at galleries, museums, and shows. She works with oils and the brilliant color and texture of soft pastels. Her background in traveling has a strong influence on her subject matter. Carol employs a contemporary impressionistic style and has painted plein air for more than 20 years. In 2012, she was awarded a prestigious Artist Residency for one month at "Les Amis de la Grande Vigne" in Dinan, France, the former home and studio of the famous French artist Yvonne Jean-Haffen. One of Carol's paintings was selected for the Museum's permanent collection and was on exhibition in France during 2013 and again in 2019. She is an award winning signature member of The Maryland Pastel Society, as well as current member of The American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, The Pastel Society of America, and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. Her painting was selected as a semi-finalist for The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, LPAPA'S 17th Annual Best of Plein Air Show. Some of her paintings are in public and private collections throughout the U.S. as well as in five international countries. Her work has been published in many newspapers, magazines and books including "The Freelance Star", "Le Petit Bleu des Cotes d' Amour", "Quest France", "Elan Magazine", "American Art Collector Magazine", "The Piedmont Virginian Magazine", "The Best of America Pastel Artists, Volume II", "The Best Medical Advertising and Graphics," "The 2017 American Art Collector Book," "Local Life Magazine," "The Hilton Head Sun," and "The Bluffton Sun."
