OIL & ACRYLICS RETURN TO BASICS: COLOR, TECHNIQUE & DESIGN

Excellence of brush or palette knife technique, colors that stay clear and bright, exciting compositions—the stuff that good paintings are made from is the emphasis in this course.  We will find our subject matter in studio still life and from photo references.  Expect to complete a painting each class.  Class demonstrations, technique exercises, hand-outs, individual attention and critiques.   (All levels of experience).

 

SKILL LEVEL:
This class is designed for Beginners, Intermediate Students and Advanced Artists wanting a refresher of the basics!

REFUND POLICY:
Ticket purchases to Art League of Hilton Head events are final. Refunds will not be given for missed or classes/workshops.
 

If a class or workshop is canceled by Art League of Hilton Head a full refund will be given.


Materials Included: No materials are included in this class. A list of materials you should bring with you will be provided upon registration.

PLEASE BRING

PAINTS:

Oil or Acrylic
(Brands to use include: Windsor Newton (Winton), Grumbacher, Golden, Holbein, Liquitex, or more)

9 BASIC COLORS:
1. Titanium White
2. Cadmium Yellow Light
3. Cadmium Red, or Cadmium Red Light
4. Alizarin Crimson
5. Ultramarine or Cobalt Blue
6. Phthalo or Cerulean Blue
7. Sap or Viridian Green
8. Yellow Ochre
9. Burnt Sienna

**Bring any others you have and wish to bring.


BRUSHES and KNIVES:

3/4 inch flat or filbert
(natural hog, sable-mix, or synthetic bristle for oil/acrylic painting)

#6 or 8 round

1 trowel-handed palette knife

(metal is best but plastic will also work)

For Oils bring Liquin
(a Winsor Newton Product) or linseed oil used as a thinning medium, and ODORLESS mineral spirits for cleaning brushes. Odorless only.

For Acrylics bring a medium for thinning(or thin with water)

Please bring a palette for laying out and mixing colors
(a piece of board or foam board approx size: 10x12")

Rags or Paper Towels for Cleanup

Lidded Jar to hold mineral spirits or water for cleanup

SUPPORTS

The following are appropriate supports for oils or acrylics: Canvas panels that come in a variety of sizes, stretched canvas, or Masonite (sanded and prime with gesso.) Heavy weight paper and mat board primed with gesso are also suitable for acrylics and oils.

Instructor Bio:
Born into a family of artists, ALEXANDRA SHARMA learned early a unique awareness of form and space that is manifest in her work. A painter, print maker, sculptor, and art professor, Alexandra has a Fine Arts degree and has studied at the Sorbonne, France, and Oxford University, England. Her work spans over twenty-five years and she is known for unique visual imagery in her paintings and her ability to capture the moment as she works primarily en plein air.

Alexandra is a founding member of the Multi Media Arts Guild, Kingston, Canada, and member of Hilton Head Art League, Apple Pie Painters, Northview Group of Artists, and a lifetime member of the American art honorary, Delta Phi Delta.

Alexandra exhibits regularly at the Charles Street Gallery in Beaufort, SC and at ALHH Gallery.
