Join instructor Robert Wortmann for this 3-week pastel course designed for those who want to learn about the pastel medium! In this course, students will first explore the variety of soft pastels and the surfaces that can be used to create paintings. These exercises will be used to get students to quickly familiarize themselves with the medium. Then Robert will show and encourage students to experiment with techniques that we can use to create the results we desire. After these steps, students will create their own original works with the help and guidance of the instructor.
Have you taken pastel with Robert before but want to continue on? Robert has developed additional lessons and exercises for returning students.

All work well. Size 8.5 x 11 inches, or size you prefer. SOFT PASTELS **NOT OIL PASTELS** You can never have enough pastels, so you should get as many as you can afford. But, if you are just beginning, I would start with Prismacolor Nupastels and then add half sticks of Unison, Sennlier, Terry Ludwig or Jack Richeson. Again, there are many brands and they will all work. Photos to use as references for your paintings QUESTIONS?: Please Email: Academy@artleaguehhi.org. |

Instructor Bio: | When ROBERT WORTMANN was in the third grade, a tempura painting of his was selected to represent his school in a student exhibition at the Nelson Atkins Gallery of Art in Kansas City. Art was always his favorite subject in school. But he stopped taking art classes once he got to high school. After all, if you wanted to attend a competitive college, you had to take more practical courses, such as Latin. After graduating from Carleton College he attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine. During his career he was a rheumatologist and worked at six medical schools. About 30 years ago he began painting again, working with oils. But about twenty years ago he discovered pastels and has not looked back. His work explores nature using color to provide a pleasing emotional response form the viewer. Over the last few years Robert's work has received numerous awards. His paintings can be viewed at the Art League of Hilton Head Gallery and exhibitions of the Hilton Head Plantation Artists Association. Robert is a member of the Saxton River Art Guild, the Pastel Society of New Hampshire and the Pastel Society of South Carolina. |
