This workshop will teach you how to paint with cold wax and oil in an abstract way. You will learn everything I know about this technique. We will work with several abstract compositions and learn about various materials, surface effects and techniques used to create unique pieces. Color harmony will also be part of this workshop. This workshop is geared towards the beginner to intermediate levels. Many demonstrations are given along with personal help and critique. Questions are welcome! Requirements: | Download a printable supply list PLEASE BRING 1 Pint Cold Wax (Gamblin or Dorlands) Note: I will have extra for purchase if you run short. Oil Paint Gamblin 1980 is a good choice. You should have a green, red, blue yellow, orange and purple. Plus, 2 large tubes of white and 1 large tube of black. Any other colors you enjoy would be fine. We will be using lots of white. You can also use water soluble oil paint. You cannot use both, one or the other. A Bowl scraper Zole + Chloe Multi Purpose Silicone Scraper from Amazon is a great choice and can be purchased on Amazon. I will also have them to purchase at cost. Gamblin Odorless Solvent Put in spray bottle. Solvent MUST BE ODORLESS Palette Knife I will have the ones I use available to purchase at cost Supports: Arches OIL paper, Multimedia Artboard, Cradled Wooden Panels, Canvas, Panels made for Oil, All panels and cradled panels need to be gesso'd prior to class! If using cradled panel, also tape the sides. If you have a question about this, I can send you a short video on how it's done. You will need a minimum of 5 to 7 supports for the 3 days. We will be working on several at a time. Supports should be no larger than 16"x16." Roll of Paper Towels Roll of Reynolds FREEZER paper (Can be found at the grocery store.) Roll of Wax Paper Roll of Plastic Wrap Masking Tape A Couple of Cheap old brushes A SOFT brayer (I will have some available to purchase at cost.) Cheap Dollar Store Tissue Paper Newsprint or Newspaper Paper and Pen for Notes Old Apron or Clothing THIS CAN GET REALLY MESSY 2 Table cloths for your workstation: table & floor NOT NECESSARY, BUT NICE TO HAVE: Marking Tools (Pencils, Markers, Etc.) Instructor Bio: | "Painting is my Passion" - Linda Benton McCloskey LINDA BENTON MCCLOSKEY enjoys painting in many mediums, including water-media (acrylic and watercolor) encaustic, cold wax, and pastels. McCloskey has several styles, since she enjoys all types of art: abstract, non-objective and impressionistic landscapes. Linda's great uncle was Thomas Hart Benton, (1889-1975) who can be found in many large museums with his murals and paintings. He was also know for mentoring Jackson Pollack. Linda is a professional fine artist and also a teacher. She teaches both online and in person. You can also find her on YouTube and Patreon.com.
