"The Ephemeral Subject: Mist & Haze in Soft Pastel" with Lisa Regopoulos (January 2025)

THE EPHEMERAL SUBJECT: MIST & HAZE IN SOFT PASTEL
with Guest Instructor Lisa Regopoulos
WHEN:
3 FULL-DAYS
Monday to Wednesday

(9am to 4pm)
January 27, 28, 29, 2025
WHERE:
Art League Academy

(106 Cordillo Parkway, Hilton Head Island, SC)

Thankfully for artists, nature is not just blue skies. In this workshop, learn to create the subtle mysterious effects of mist and haze in your pastel landscape. Emphasis will be on use of tonal values, atmospheric perspective, planes in the landscape and handling of edges.

The workshop will begin with a one-hour demo, followed by a tonal value exercise before beginning your pastel masterpiece. Each attendee will have plenty of instruction at their easel. Working from your own photos of mist and haze is encouraged. Each day attendees will leave with a finished painting.
I will provide hand-outs for each attendee and specific books I love and refer to. I’ll also bring finished pastels that relate to the subject of mist and haze.

NOTE: Students have the option to sign up for a 4th day of painting en plein air with Lisa on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Read more or sign up for that class now!

First impressions of a scene, life in real time, are what MA artist LISA REGOPOULOS likes to paint. That's why plein air painting excites her most. Her plein air work is fresh and energetic, and it's that feeling in her pastel work that engages her viewers, causing them to linger and begging them to share in that feeling. She also enjoys working in multiple series and has a focus right now on snowy owls in the landscape, plein air landscape, songbirds and florals.

Her latest accomplishments: Received her IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies) Master Circle Medallion, IAPS Convention 2022 (earned in 2019 and delayed because of the pandemic), in Albuquerque, NM, Honorable Mention in the Pastel 100 Competition of the Pastel Journal, Best in Show, Pastel Society of NH Members Show, Published in the fall issue of the Pastel Journal Magazine, 2022, 3rd Place in the Pastel Society of New Hampshire National Juried Show, It's Pastel, and teaching a ten day plein air Painting and Barging in France workshop, September, 2022. Her most recent achievement is a feature article in the summer 2023 issue of the Pastel Journal Magazine. She is also an instructor for the upcoming Artists Network Art Fest in Lancaster, PA and Mesa, Arizona.

Lisa has scheduled a workshop at La Romita School of Art in Umbria, Italy on June 23 - July 3, 2024.
