Instructor Bio: | ![]() CYNTHIA BUCKLEY is a Stained Glass Artist. Ever since Cynthia was a child, she's loved to draw and paint, and, as an adult, she started to collect antique glass. Combining her love for art and glass took Cynthia to the Diablo Glass School in Boston, which is affiliated with the Museum of Fine Arts and Massachusetts College of Art. After taking private classes at Diablo in beginning and then advanced stained glass, Cynthia started working with stained glass and set up her own private studio in Cape Cod. Over the years, Cynthia has taken classes in many other forms of glass, including glassblowing, fusing, flameworking, glass sculpture, etching, sandblasting, and also wire working, which she uses in some of her stained-glass pieces. These classes have been at Diablo but also at Snow Farm, The New England Craft Program, Whittemore-Durgin Glass and at the Studios at the Corning Museum. Continuing to learn more about the medium of glass has not only added to her own work but also given Cynthia a greater appreciation of the work of other glass artists. Cynthia designs and handcrafts each piece she creates using the Tiffany Copper Foil Method. Some of her work is traditional but most are non-traditional in its elements, modern design, and construction. Cynthia rarely uses a pattern, but instead, draws out an original design on paper, pulls the types and colors of glass she wants to use, and then, as she creates a piece, she will sometimes change the design or glass so that each piece is truly one of a kind. Cynthia tries to concentrate her time in the studio on work that is more challenging and artistic so that it is considered fine art rather than craft. In Cape Cod, Cythia was an Artist Member of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cape Cod Art Association, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Sandwich Arts Alliance, Falmouth Artist Guild, and the Fuller Craft Museum, where she was also an instructor. Cindy was also a member of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce, and has been featured on several television, and online video programs including the Cape Cod Visitors Network, Sandwich Chamber of Commerce "Spotlight" and Sandwich Community Television "I'm Sandwich Local". Her work was exhibited at the Wellfleet "Emerging Artists" Exhibition, Cape Cod Art Association, Sandwich Public Library, and she was selected as a Glass Artisan Demonstrator for "Arts in Action" for the Town of Sandwich and she participated in many artisan shows, exhibitions and festivals. After moving to South Carolina, Cynthia set up her glass studio at Atelier off Bay in downtown Beaufort and became a member of the Beaufort Art Association and the Art League of Hilton Head. Her work has been exhibited in the Center for the Arts at the University of South Carolina, the Port Royal Sound Maritime Center, and the Beaufort Art Association's gallery as well as its satellite galleries. She has also participated in many local artisan shows, exhibitions, and festivals. Cynthia's work is available at her studio and also in many shops and galleries in the Low Country, including Beaufort River Glass, Maye River Gallery, The Turtle's Nest, River and Marsh, and ZenDen. Commission requests are accepted for both residential and commercial projects. She also recently did a public glass demonstration during the Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival. |
