9/24/21 DEMO: Acrylics: Transparent Methods for Glass and Water with Alex Sharma

Acrylics: Transparent Methods
for Glass and Water

LIVE DEMO with Alex Sharma

WHEN: Friday, September 24, 2021
(10am to 11:30am EST)

Acrylic paint is an opaque medium similar to oils. However, it can also have a transparent, many-layered look through the application of specific methods in conjunction with the use of a painting medium.

This paint-along demo will feature how to use the layering process using an acrylic medium to create the illusion of glass and clear water, among other applications.

Alex will be using gloss medium to mix with her paints. Any acrylic medium is fine (matte, gloss et al)

Materials Included: No materials are provided by Art League of Hilton Head for this demonstration.
Requirements: All LIVE DEMOs with Alex Sharma are designed so that students can watch, or paint along with while they watch. If you choose to paint along, you're welcome to paint in whatever medium you choose, as almost all of the techniques can be applied across mediums.

For this Demonstration, here are a few supplies Alex recommends having for those of you who wish to paint along:

MATERIALS:
1. Basic Acrylic Paint Colors (Cadmium or Cobalt yellow, Yellow ochre or Raw Sienna, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Sap Green, Burnt Sienna and Titanium White)

*NOTES: The main thing is to have at least 1 yellow, 2 reds (cadmium and alizarin), at least 2 blues (ultramarine + cerulean or cobalt or phthalo) , and 1 green (sap is a good choice-- or Hookers or viridian). This way you will always have an excellent range of colors from which to mix other colors.

2. Acrylic Medium (such as Liquin gloss or matte medium)
3. Brushes
4. Paper
